Why it matters
What a single bus can cost for the day. District-owned school buses often carry a $500 to $600 minimum, and a charter bus runs $950 to $2,000.
What admission alone costs for a class of 30 kids, at a typical $5 to $15 per student.
In a Johns Hopkins study, the few museums whose field-trip attendance rose while others fell between 2000 and 2018 were the ones that covered the costs: buses, substitute teachers, even lunch.
One museum visit raised students’ critical thinking, empathy, and tolerance, and kids from high-poverty schools gained two to three times more than their peers.
